I love scones and have made my first batch whn my mum finally alowed me in the kitchen to cook age 10.

The Recipe below is so easy and anyone can make scones much btter than those shop bought ones

1lb Self Raising flour
4ozs Butter
1 level tsp salt
Aprox 3-4 tablespoons milk more may be required
black pepper
1 tsp dried mustard
6 ozs strongest cheddar cheese you can get
1 egg to glaze tops of scones

In a bowl rub the butter into the flour along with the salt and dried mustard. when like breadcrumbs add ground black pepper i like to add a few twists . Add the grated cheese and add the milk to make a soft but not sticky dough. Leave to rest 5 mins then roll out just less than 1 inch thick, with a pastry cutter cut out about 2 inches in diameter . you should get 12 scones anymore and you have cut them out too flat . Brush the tops with the beaten egg and rest for 5 mins before baking into a preheated oven gas 7 electric 450 faherenheit 240 celsius. everybodys oven will vary in heat but the oven needs to be hot otherwise they dont rise quick enough initially within the first 7 mins. bake 12 to 15 mins till well risen golden brown and firm to touch.

you can eat these while warm split and buttered or eat them with a mixed salad and some slices of roast ham .
happy baking
